Scale is irrelevant. Subject is irrelevant. Time is irrelevant. Place is irrelevant. In such a blurred system reduction of focus becomes the only path to a perception of beauty as a principled phenomenon, whether it be by compressing large swaths of matter to pixels or narrowing one's field of view. So it goes in photography, but in life we are faced with an inescapable vortex of gray and politically charged surfaces, dull and unreflective. As the indivisible moment flows like syrup through us we make measures and cuts that only highlight the infinity out of reach. Each stirring of pigment is nothing in the face of the intricacy extant in the space between two quarks. Suffusion. Unrelenting, and each focused attempt becomes yet another boundless surface for the unconscious.
